A very big reason that you don't have this kind of thing in Flash is
because of the language barrier...
Lingo is a very robust OOP language with many MANY built in functions...
Flash is a basic half-procedural language that requires work arounds and all
sorts of hairy code to do things... often that hairy code is very techincal
in nature and requires a lot more of a programmer than a similar lingo
script would.
Its kinda funny... what I see in Flash now is kinda similar to what I saw in
assembler back in the day... hmmm....
there's an idea... go dig up my old Zen of... series from Abrash.. that
might prove to be interesting..

Have been meaning to pass this on to the group for a while.

There is a site, Director-Online, which is an amazing resource for
Director-related issues. They have a section called- Multimedia
Handyman- which lays out tutorials for some of the whizzier stuff you
can do in Director. A couple of months back they ran an excellent
"How-To" regarding creating buttons in Flash that kick off events in
Director/Shockwave. Have noticed a few posts around this on the list.
Here's the direct link to the article:

Now if we could only get ActionScript tutorials that are as well
presented.
