Subject: FLASH: Reality check re *Flash 4 Magic* file?
From: unique

Hello all,

Well I finally dove into *Flash 4 Magic* (been cramming on *Dreamweaver 2
H.O.T.*) tonight.

I'm on a Mac G3/266, OS 8.6, 192 meg o' RAM. I experimented, and discovered
that, in order to open the first project file, 7.5 meg, I have to have 120 meg
of RAM allocated to Flash 4.0a. 115 meg is not enough.

I've never worked with a file of this size (I think I've topped out at 75K). Can
someone tell me if the above is a typical ratio for file size to memory
allocation need (1:16)?

Also: as an experiment, I immediately saved the file to HD after opening. The
size of the saved file is only 4.3 meg! (Others, at least those on a Mac, should
be able to replicate this if necessary.)

Where did the other 3.2 meg of file go? I remember that PageMaker files will get
fat and bulky (because all changes are saved literally and in sequence) until a
"Save As" is issued, whereupon things are condensed into a more compact file.
But I never imagined that this might be the case with Flash! Do others ever
experience anything like this?

TIA,

Ken Sherwood
