Hey Andrew,
I think the major problem macromedia wanted to correct was the flash 4 font
selection problem. All of the fonts were cut off so you couldn't tell the
difference between say "Futura MD BT" and "Futura LT" cause they both read
"Futur".
But I agree with you. When switching from flash 4 to 5, alot of things seem
counter productive. Especially cause you have been doing it the one way for
soooo long.
But you gotta cut macromedia some slack. They wanted to standardize their
interface. They wanted everything to have a panel. And for the most part it
is more productive ( especially with changing alpha properties for a large
number of symbols). But be happy that they changed the stuff now as opposed
to 2 version from now, where it would be almost impossible for you to switch
to a new workflow.
My only major problem with the panels is that unless I have a 21-inch
monitor running 1600-1200 resolution, I cant get any work done. There are
simply too many panels that are used too often. And 1024-768 just wont cut
it.
But for the most part you shouldn't get too worried. I am sure that both you
and myself will eventually get used to the *NEW* way of doing things.

In Flash 4 if you selected a range of cells and inserted Keyframe, Flash
created a keyframe in each of the selected cells. I was just reading in a
book that Flash 5 does the same, but I haven't been able to get that
function
to work? Has anyone had any luck with that? Why would they remove that
feature?
Some of the action Panels also seem to create more work than the simple
modifiers that we had before, especially the text modifiers. They used to
be
so simple right there as soon as you clicked any text, now you've got to go
to a panel with a pull down menu, it's really very counter productive. If
they wanted panels why couldn't they leave all the modifiers on the tool bar
as well? Argghhh!!
Andrew
