I have used Authorware and Director extensively and am just learning Flash.
Michael, I agree with everything you just stated regarding the differences
between the programs.

I would also like to add that Authorware seems to be quite a bit easier to
use than Director. Also, it has a lot of custom features useful when
creating training, such as built-in CMI functionality. However, you can not
do (or it is very difficult to do) some of what you can do in Director
and/or Flash with respect to interactivity and animation. That's based on
the strengths of those products.

Also, Authorware and Flash can work together very well. For example, a
Flash animation can easily be imported into Authorware to add a quality
animation to the Authorware program. In addition, Authorware and Flash can
communicate, although I have never tried this...

Authorware is different from both flash and director. Director is a beefy
version of Flash...where Authorware is something unto itself. We've used
authorware in the past to create multimedia for CD's. It can also be used
for the web, but I think the plugin is not as widespread as the flash
player. Also, when you work in AW, you work with flow charts, NOT timelines.
It requires a different visual thought process (I think) to use it
effectively.

If Flash and Director do what you need...I would suggest staying with them.
AW is pretty pricey, too!

Michael
