Unfortunately, there's no equivalent in Flash for the type of thing you want
to do. The closest thing you can come to are motion trails which you can
fake along the timeline (and with actionscript).

You can also check out the various solutions using ActionScript's
duplicateMovieClip, including the sample "trailers.fla" that shipped with
Flash 4.

Must be a problem on the user's side. I am running Opera 5.02 as my
standard browser on my system and your site works fine, it even scales
right.
And a *real* web developer should be able to get his work viewable in
most browsers... ;) and not only in MSIE as one listmember
suggested...

absolutely right, and wasn't me who suggested this, but a peek
in the logs of some web sites with more or less flash only content
constantly gives :
MSIE 5 : 80 - 85% ( tendency : increasing )
NN 4. 9 - 12% ( tendency : constant )
MSIE 4 3 - 2% ( tendency : decreasing )
robots + freaks 0.01%-<1%( each pretty constant )

You have to load it in a higher level. The main movie is _level0 - when you load another movie in that level, it replaces the main
movie.
You can set that in the loadmovie parameters in the actionscript window.
This will load a movie into _level1:
loadMovieNum ("your-movie.swf", 1);
You can also load an external movie in a target Movieclip. Instead of the level, you then use the movieclips instance name (in this
case: target_mc) as the target.
loadMovie ("your-movie.swf", "target_mc");

You can prove everything with statistics:
my own logs:
Netscape 4.x 58%
MSIE 5.x 19%
Opera 5 9%
Netscape 3 2%
MSIE 4.x 2%
Other 10%
another site:
MSIE 5.x 42%
Netscape 4.x 32%
Netscape 3 10%
MSIE 3 4%
Opera 5 3%
MSIE 4 3%
Other 7%
Since the release of Opera 5 as an Nearly-Free-Browser, it constantly
appears in my log files and seems to gain some ground (not as
difficult after the release of Netscape 6).

Or you can now use Wildform FLIX (www.wildform.com) and convert your QT
Movie to a SWF. Most likely wouldn't be too much to work to add *controls*
to it.

Nope. But you can embed Flash in QT.

Thanks so much for your reply. However, I have tried both methods. The
first, loading the movie into level 1 works fine except I cannot control
it's position on the stage. Using the second method, loading a movie clip
instance, replaces the main movie. What am I doing wrong?

Suzanne Harmon

You have to load it in a higher level. The main movie is _level0 - when you
load another movie in that level, it replaces the main
movie.
You can set that in the loadmovie parameters in the actionscript window.
This will load a movie into _level1:
loadMovieNum ("your-movie.swf", 1);
You can also load an external movie in a target Movieclip. Instead of the
level, you then use the movieclips instance name (in this
case: target_mc) as the target.
loadMovie ("your-movie.swf", "target_mc");

After loading a movie into a level number (say, 1) you can control its
position like so:
_level1._x=100;
_level1._y=221;
If loading into an instance replaces the main movie you're probably doing
something wrong with the loadMovie statement:
loadMovie("submovie.swf", clipInstance);
Is there a clip with an instance name of clipInstance?

Suzanne,
You should be able to control the position of the movie in level 1 as
long as you wait til it's loaded before positioning it. Here's a way to
do that:
Put a blank frame at the start of the movie to be loaded (so it doesn't
show up in the wrong place while it's loading), and label the first
frame that has actual content "mstart". Then this code should work:
first frame:
loadMovieNum ("yourmovie.swf", 1);
next frame (labelled looper):
if (_level1._framesloaded>=1 && _level1._framesloaded ==
_level1._totalframes) {
gotoAndPlay ("starthere");
}
next frame:
gotoAndPlay ("looper");
next frame (labelled starthere):
_level1._x = 200; // whatever you want for upperleft x
_level1._y = 100; // whatever you want for upperleft y
_level1.gotoAndPlay("mstart");
Regards,
Helen

Thanks so much for everyone's help. I got it to work with an empty movie
clip and used target instead of level for the empty movie clip and it works
great.
