Subject: Speed of the Web
From: John Croteau

Hi all,

A recent study showed that the average speed of the Web is 50K. This
explains why those with T1 lines often get only sporatic or marginal
improvement over those with ISDN or 56K modems.
Most of the backbone providers for the Web have major improvements
in the works but I don't expect them to be able to keep up with the
increased demand. As new surfers are added, surfers spend more time on
the Web and more video is pushed through the Web, I expect that the
average speed on the Web to remain the same or to actually decrease
slightly over the next couple of years.
