Scrubbing comes from back when we edited with reel-to-reel and, with our bare
hands (heaven forbid!), scrubbed the tape back and forth over the playback
head by turning the reels back and forth, then found the spot we wanted to
edit and cut (oh my!!) with a razor where we wanted to make an edit. (and we
used tape to piece two pieces together ... craziness!!)

long story short: Scrubbing in the digital world is moving the time needle
back and forth and audio "scrubs" with it to do video and audio matchup. When
you scrub backwards the audio plays backwards ... forward the audio plays
forward. This is a basic feature in most digital video editing suites so that
an editor can match video an audio perfectly to the frame ... something I was
just yearning for today while using Flash.
