Hi Marc and all,

Receiving multiple (or no) copies of Email is not uncommon and a fact of
life for the Web. There are 4 main reasons for receiving the small mail
twice (or more).

1) Sender sends it twice. Usually the date is different between the 2
copies.
2) While user is sending mail, it was interrupted. Sender aasumes the
first email was not sent and he resends.
3) List server double posts. This is not common and usually happens when
backup email is sent if the server had gone down and it is not known if
mail was sent or not.
4) Relay server of Email sends message back to List server (or sender's
server) saying message was undeliverable but the mail was actually
delivered anyway despite the message. List server (or your email server)
resends.

Number 2 and 4 are the most common problems.

2 is preventable if the poster is willing to wait to see if the mail is
received in the normal delivery time span (remember it varies from a
couple of minutes to a couple of hours or more).

4 is a fact of life and if it is sporatic should be ignored. If it is
happening alot then you need to send the email with the complete headers
of both messages to Sam. Sam should find an undeliverable message at the
List server that corresponds (or you should have received one and should
forward it). From the three messages the probable source of the problem
can be notified. Usually, they already know about it, but solving these
problems are often difficult.
