Subject: FLASH: Quicktime movies on server
From: michael werth

hi again, another head-scratcher.
i create a flash file. i import a qt.mov from a networked server, mapped as
Q: .all is well. dbl-click on the .mov file in the library window and the
path shows as Q:\qt_folder\qt.mov .

then i copy the fla to another station on the same network. if i open the
fla on that station the qt.mov shows as an x with the message <<preview
unavailable>> even though the path to the server is still (from that new
station) Q:\qt_folder\qt.mov . this is not good. even if i try to reset the
path it doesn't like it.

the workaround is to copy the qt.mov from Q: to a local folder, say
C:\movies\qt.mov . import the .mov into a .fla file. then copy the .fla to
another station. onto that same station create a folder called C:\movies\
and put a copy of the qt.mov into it. NOW the .fla on station 2 looks for
the path C:\movies\qt.mov on station 2 (even though the c: path is actually
one created on station 1), finds it, and plays the fla with the .mov
properly.

that, to me, is just silly. if q is mapped from station 1 and from station
2, why not play the file from any machine with the same network drive mapped
to the same letter?

anyone have a better idea?
m
