Subject: Re: FLASH: Multiplayer / multiuser appz in flash

am I to assume that the combination of smiley and
shockwave link indicate that you recommend using
director?!

i am reminded of someone really bright saying
something to the effect of "we don't need generator." *grin*

jd, you and i both know that it IS possible to pass
"media" using the available multi-user flash techniques.
you just put single slices of media into their own swf
files and pass text thru the multiuser engine of choice
and have the movie on the other side do a loadmovie
call based on the text they recieve--effectively passing "media."
It's the same principle as DNS lookup really. What are
we talking in terms of performance difference v/s "true"
media sharing? 5% ?

peer-to-peer...i dunno...that's not really useful once you
go above 3 or 4 participants, but I'll grant you that it's
nice to be able to choose. scalability gets a thumbs up
of course, but what makes shockwave more scalable
than flash?

love to get your perspective on this, john. it should be
apparent by now that multi-user is a newfound thrill of mine.
I'm not exacly sure why I bother with the education side
sometimes. It just means that I get three more emails asking
for an instant messaging fla...*sigh*

MU is built out of sweat, ok? It doesn't matter what authoring
tool you use.

(Flash 5 will render some of this moot after a manner, but
it's not like mm is willing to talk turkey yet...)
