Just to be on the safe side, are you putting the actions to go to another
part of the movie in the button or in the instance of the button. If you
know this already just ignore the following:
Actions do not work when placed inside the actual button in symbol editing
mode. If you can see the four button states in the timeline, you are in the
symbol editing mode. You must put all actions in the instance of the button
on the stage in the main time line or in a movie clip.
You do this by double clicking on the button instance on the stage ( if
enable button actions is not selected in the Control menu) or going to
Modify/Instance with only the button selected, or by pressing Control-l (pc)
or Command-l (Mac). Then select the Actions tab and insert your actions.
To Tell Target from a button in a movie clip to the main timeline, all you
need is the /

abuttonin a movieclip
OK folks...this is getting serious. I still can't get it to work...and it
seems soooo simple, I must be missing something! I've gone over the code and
everything...line by line, symbol by symbol and I can't figure out why it's
not working. Let me start over in more detail..
I have some simple form elements on the stage (demo purposes only.. nothing
will actually get submitted to the server). I also have a simple submit
button on the stage that telltargets a 2 frame movie clip that plays a
"thankyou" message, with the thank you message being on the second frame of
the clip. I have a stop action on the first frame of the clip with no other
content. Along with the thankyou message in the second frame of the movie
clip.. I have an "ok" button. Now, I want the user to fill out the form, hit
submit... get the thankyou message, click "ok" and then have the frame head
n the main timeline go to another part of the movie...not just kill the
thankyou message. Are you with me so far...? So I placed the clip on the
stage and named it something like "thankyou".. and telltargeted it from the
"submit" button. Then I opened the movie clip and modified the button to the
following...
On (Release)
Go To and Stop ("/labelname)
End on
I didn't bother putting an action to kill the clip since it will just
disappear when the maintime line goes to the frame it's SUPPOSED to go to.
I have tried just using the label name with no forward slash...and the two
dots, ../ and it doesn't work. Interesting that when I test the movie.. it
kills the movie clip.. but stays in the same frame of the timeline.
Oh yea.. and I triple checked the name of my label to make sure it matches
the actionscript.
Wow, I hope someone can find the answer without me having to post this big
FLA... it's gotta be something I'm overlooking!
Thanks a bunch in advance!!
