Re: New Business Models for the distribution of Afro-Centric Music...
As a Flash Developer with a love for Afro-centric music ...a form of music
that is highly under represented on Radio and TV... it is even more
important that I tell my clients, who lately have been approaching me from
the Jamaican Reggae Community and a few from the African-American Hip-Hop
community..that there is a way to distribute their music...and it is on the
web. Further, it is important for my clients to realize that they can charge
for it...if they choose...One misconception I come up against is the fear
that they have to give the music away for "free" and hence, not get
paid......the other fear is that not enough of their fans are online and
that no one will find the music...It is my job to sell my client on the
benefits of the web and the future of accessibility and the power of
networking and marketing...

These communites have, of course been mis represented and under represented
by the BIG Labels since the beginning of the OLD EXPLOITIVE economic
system....one based, of course, in Slavery...so...there is even more reason
for this community to embrace the new formats as they tend to be excluded
from the traditional methods of distribution anyhow..... Chuck D, of Public
Enemy has long been a supporter of MP3. He has been saying, for a long time,
"Fight the Powers that Be"....
The new connected networked economy creates new business models and we all
have to adapt or fade away...that is beyond anyones control....I was trained
as a painter and then studied to become a Classical Animator and as a woman
was never given a break in either field, was always locked out of the white
male bastians of "towers of babel", mostly because of the type of content I
choose to deal with... I personally think that the web and these new
business models it is the greatest thing since sliced brown bread....
