Your idea of converting the bottom image to symbol then breaking apart on
the stage worked. Originally I didn't think of converting the graphic to a
symbol because I only planned to use it one time in my movie. I'm still not
sure how come your solution worked... I just know that it did.
For the problem of distortion in the downstates of the buttons... I wasn't
as lucky with your solution of unchecking "smoothing" in the properties box.
I tried that, plus converting to symbol and breaking apart and noticed
subtle differences yet they were still distorting. My next test would be to
try a different format than GIF..like maybe PNG. Or import pict file (Mac)
and let Flash dither them down.
I hope Macromedia is addressing this problem in Flash 5! It's a serious
limitation of the program and needs to looked at seriously if they want to
keep all developers happy.... as I'm not the first or only one to experience
this. The manager of this project is so frustrated with how Flash is
behaving that he is thinking of continuing the development in Director.
Macromedia still wins since it's also their product, however, I'm sure they
don't want any negativity surrounding their product.
So Macromedia, is this "bug" fixed in version 5?? Or just what are the
workarounds to gain better control over bitmaps?
