As far as I know, there are no hard fast rules regarding music sampling. I
am aware of several parties who were successfully sued under copyright
violation laws so you are taking a big chance when you do it. (JUST ASK
Vanilla Ice, The Verve, etc)
Perhaps David Gary can shed some light. I've wondered for the past year how
he gets away with the Lenny Kravitz sample on his home page.
