Bit rate expresses the average bits per seconds used. The actual

resulting samples per seconds would be based upon the music complexity

and resulting compression effectiveness and the vertical resolution

seting (Quality).


MPEG uses complicated algorithms that supply a steady audio output a

fixed bit rate. But the MPEG file itself is not a bit by bit

representation of the music. To save bytes MPEG removes redundencies and

what it considers superfluous information based on its understanding of

what sounds details are not needed to provide the best sound for the set

bit rate and quality.


The file size will be the same no matter which Quality setting (Fast,

Medium or Best) is selected. This setting sets the algorithm's priority

for complexity and decompression. Fast allows for better streaming

whereas Medium or Best allow more detail to be storeed but may need more

of the file to be in memory for a certain point in time to play. Use

fast for the Web and either Medium or Best for CD and hard drive

playback.
