iPix (I cannot recommend technology from this company & predict you will regret
any interaction with them) is based on a fisheye image mapped to the inside
surface of a sphere. QTVR is based on a rectilinear image mapped to the inside
surface of a cylinder. QT is supposed to soon start supporting QTVR images
mapped to the inside surface of cubes. It is very easy to mimic QTVR behavior in
Flash, even the up, down, zoom in, out and even auto panning guided tours. But,
unless you want to write action scripts to dewarp the image (is that even
possible?) then you would want to first remap the image with Helmut Dersch's
PanoTools PS Plugin (http://www.fh-furtwangen.de/~dersch ) so the image doesn't
look distorted. No, you cannot display any QT content within a SWF or Flash
Projector. Yes, there are many examples of Flash based QTVR mimics on the web,
but sorry I don't have any URLs for you. However, if this is going on a CD, and
quality is an issue, you would probably deliver a much better product if you
used QTVR in Director.
