Steve,
It depends on where you place your MC on the stage.
When the size of your MC is, say 100x100, centered on its origin, the
upper and left 50 pixels will be off stage when the center of the MC
are at 0,0 of the main stage.
You can edit the MC on the main stage by option-clicking an instance.
