Word of mouth and an online portfolio. I'm a business owner, not a
freelancer -- meaning that promoting my business' image is as important
as finding paying work -- so that perhaps makes word of mouth (and proof
of eye, if you will) recommendations my most successful way of getting
and keeping clients. For strictly freelance work, online agencies and
job lists (like this one, where people often solicit subcontractors) may
be just as good for finding paying work.
