Looks good, runs good, music plays fine... but 5+ megs? Ouch.
As said, much of that is the music.
Here's some ways I've gotten around this problem:
On a personal project I did long ago in Director, to fit on a diskette
(you know that challenge), I wanted some background music. There was no
way to include the whole song, so I chopped out the various main loops
that made up that song (intro, chorus, etc.), looped them as many times
as needed (based on the song) then moved on to the next looped sound.
For example:
----------------------
Intro loop (repeat 4x)
next loop (repeat 2x)
chorus loop (repeat 2x)
repeat 4x
It saves a lot of space.
That worked well, but to spice up another project, I had a basic loop,
rather long, and then randomly played a chorus loop between the basic
loop. During this, a random sound (in my case, static, which worked
well with the song, a portishead remix) would fade in and out at various volumes.
It's a good way to keep the background music interesting and the file
size down. It especially works well with electronic music.
Hope this sparks some ideas...
