You could also "fake" the z-indexing by having three symbols which
represent your buttons at rest on one layer, and three movie clips
in a layer above which each contain an initial empty frame, followed
by an animation of a button coming forward. Add an empty button
on another layer for each button symbol, which turns off the button
symbol your mouse is over (by moving it to an empty frame), and
plays the animation on the higher level.
