Hi Chris -

I have to say that there are no Flash 4 methods that allow us to do this. I
never say "it can't be done" because people find creative ways around it...
but there is no ActionScript method that can set focus to a text field.
A creative workaround I saw once was where someone drew a picture of a text
field, with a blinking cursor (movie clip animation). In the mock text field
was the words "click here". The words were turned into a button. When the
user clicked on the text (button), the movie went to the next frame where
the text field resided. Graphically, it looked identical, and because the
user clicked on the button, they were in the correct location on the stage.
The effect was not to set the cursor focus, but to make sure the user's
attention was in the right place to do so. It's tricky, but for the example
I saw, it really did the trick.
I know it's not a "solution", but this is a FAQ and a high-ranking feature
request. I just wanted to share the only info I had on working around this
limitation.
Matt
