Matt,

This side of the pond Opera is rather popular and it's always been a bit of
a pain explaining that Flash is OK to Opera users ("It doesn't even install
properly so it's a piece of ..." is a common reaction). Couple this with the
way nearly 90% of the sites do Flash detection and the end result is that
Flash is not Opera friendly.
Opera of course does it's bit by explaining how to install the plugin but as
Opera isn't "made in the US" branded one has to expect that normal "US
centric" companies just disregard it.
Macromedia falls into this later category as can be demonstrated from the
fact that no tech note reflects advice on how to make a Flash enabled page
Opera friendly. The end result is that even "Site of the Day" and "Special
Coverage" sites linked form Macromedia and showcasing Flash will not work
with a Flash enabled Opera. Some of these even commit the mistake of
thinking the detection scheme they use is infallible and offer no
alternative but to download an already installed plugin or transport the
user to the non flash based version of the site.
As for the wish-flash email address I would never think of using it for a
request of this type.

P.S. Do you happen to know the corresponding address for UltraDev ? Would it
be wish-UltraDev ? How could Macromedia put out such an unfinished product ?
