Reliable detection is pretty much impossible with Real and WiMP, and only
recently become possible with QuickTime, (and not reliably with a script
only detection) so developers using these plugs generally use a 'get plug-in
here'. While its pretty cool when it works, Flash detection using scripts,
while more possible, is not ever going to be 100% effective, and clients
should be made aware of this fact. Flash itself is advanced, its exciting,
and it has potential dangers. If the rewards aren't worth benefit, then use
plain text, gifs and maybe jpegs. I explain to clients that while Flash is
about the most mature plug-in when it comes to acting invisibly, its not as
safe as text, gifs, and jpegs. And walking is generally much safer than
driving, too;-).
