I know everyone shies away from VB scripting, but could VB do something like
this ?

The closest way I am aware of in Flash is to make a little paintbrush mc and
have it follow your cursor "on drag." I have done this to make crosshairs
and
crayons on the past and it works fine.

There is no way to hide the cursor (or change it to another item) in Flash.
