Subject: | FLASH: (Mac) Flash Writer & Illustrator 9... (Additional Illustrator 9 instability problems)...please help! |

I just upgraded to Illustrator 9. Prior to the upgrade I made extensive
use of Macromedia's free "FlashWriter" plug-in for Illustrator, for
helping to convert Illustrator files into working Flash document.
Illustrator 9 offers more advanced support of Flash itself so I was
wondering if FlashWriter works with Illustrator 9. I am asking for two
reasons. First, I am experiencing major instability with Illustrator
locking up at launch. I just reinstalled It and it is working fine. <I
don't know what caused the problem so I will be reinstalling the
"additional" pieces one by one.> Before I reinstall FlashWriter, I want
to make sure that 1) there are no known conflicts with Illustrator 9 and
2) if there are any benefits provided by it, that Illustrator doesn't
natively support yet (i.e. is it needed anymore)?
Second, (primarily directed toward the "Digital Artist" list members)
are there known issues or common installation pitfalls for Illustrator
9. The problem I am experiencing is that it starts to launch, the splash
screen appears and the list of files being installed scroll through,
then the splash screen closes and everything is blank--nothing appears
in the Menu/Title bar, the icons on my desktop are gone, all I have is
my arrow cursor which sometimes locks up and sometimes remains
moble....but nothing happens.
Additional "tweaks" that I did to the application after the first
install and initial launch was:
1. I created an alias of my PhotoShop 5.5 "Plug-ins" folder and added it
to the Illustrator 9 "Plug-ins" folder;
2. I took the Illustrator Extras>Brush Libraries contents and added them
to the I9 Brush Libraries. In doing this, I left them in their
appropriate sub-folders rather than dragging them all out to the root
folder "Brush Libraries."
Is this causing the problem, should all of the libraries be in the root
folder rather than in sub-folders?
3. I took the Illustrator Extras>Pattern & Texture Libraries and dragged
the contents of this folder into the "Other Libraries" folder. Should
they have gone other where?
4. I took the contents of Illustrator Extras>Templates and moved them
into the "Sample Files" folder. Corrections or suggestions?
Other than these things does anyone else have an idea about why
Illustrator should be crashing upon launch...even after a fresh reboot?
Illustrator does have 250MB RAM allocated to it. This is on a 266 Beige
G3 Minitower with 384MB total Ram. Running OS 9.0.4.
