I use it and love it. I've never really been patient
enough to wrap my mind around 3d modeling but
Dimensions is a pretty cool alternative. It's mostly
capable of just extrusion, but it can import some
2d shapes, and extrude them and then you can
combine them into more complex shapes. It can
render basic animations to postscript, which can
then be imported into Flash (as a series). There
is a bit of post-import tweaking necessary (for
some reason it uses masks extensively and
needlessly) but it's still easier than tracing. It's not
compatible with any other 3d packages AFAIK, and
it isn't very flexible at all, but it's the simplest thing
I've come across to get the job done.

If you can already model fairly well with 3ds Max or
some other professional modeling environment, then
this is probably not powerful enough for you. If
you haven't got time to learn that stuff or are missing
the brain cells like me, then try Dimensions...
