The Flash Player's API to JavaScript is not in the manual of the Macromedia
Flash authoring application, because it's a function of the Player, which
may have a different development schedule than the core authoring
application. (See the recent printing enhancements, for instance.)

The technotes are good for things like this. If you search the Flash
technotes with keyword "javascript", then you'll retrieve documents like:

"Scripting Methods Supported by the Flash 3 Players"
http://www.macromedia.com/go/13246

"Scripting Methods Supported by the Flash 4 Players"
http://www.macromedia.com/go/13945

Remember, though, that not all browsers let scripts talk to plugin
objects... IE/Mac is the biggest ringer, although Opera or Linux and so on
don't support such abilities either.
