John,
This was an issue with the earlier Flash plug-ins. You could load from
different domains and this was a security hazard, so the newer F4 plug-in
can only load from the same server.

So if you do load from a different domain, people who have not downloaded
the F4 plug-in in while could see it, but anyone who downloaded within the
past about 8 months (total guess on the time there) could not see it.

Subject: FLASH: Flash Functionality Verification

I would appreciate verification, or better yet refudiation, that Flash
does not allow the loading of variables from Domains other than
the one servicng the movie. I have successfully used loadvariables by
referencing a document relatively
(somedir/somefile.asp) from a movie loaded in www.somedomain.com. What I
would like to do is load the variables
from www.someotherdomain.com/somedir/somefile.asp. This would be useful
for two reasons, one I could do some
load balancing from the client, two I could use the relative strengths
of both the Unix Perl/PHP environment and ASP
Scripting environment for different tasks. I look forward to your
comments and insights.

Thanks,
John Andrew Morrison
