Ill try to help you here.


If you want to recreate an effect like that of the caligraphy Pen in the

samples section of Flash2.


First of all that particular example is not the way I would approach it. 

The (ink) mask used to create that looked like it took the creator much

more

work than needed.


1: create 3 layers


2: On layer 3 size the text or cursive fonts your going to use.(the

written part)

of Flash.


3: On layer 2 create a large filled in square the same color as the

backgrouhd.(I assume white)


4: group the square and tween it to move from left to right. this will

gradually expose the already existing cursive fonts below.


5: Animate a pen moving back and forth in one place as if it were

writing kepping the point of the pin on the same axis in symbol form and

drag it onto layer one.


6: create a "motion path" from the 1st layer(it will provide its own

layer, draw the path to follow the cursive fonts on layer 3.


7:Snap the animated pen symbol to the beg. part of the motion path line

youve drawn.


8: on layer 2(the mask layer) you will have to tinker with the way the

mask tweens from left to right to hide the cursive fonts underneath

effectively.


Motion paths are a thing of their own and I usually try to avoid them.
