That's my understanding as well. Although the Mac can play WAV files as well.
In this case, it's for Mac so I haven't tried importing a WAV file.
Although I would have thought (jsut guessing here:-)) that once it's
in the Flash movie, and then saved as a Shockwave file. It wouldn't
matter what the original sound format was because Flash would have
stored it in it's own format.
I also found that when I re-saved the sound file (as AIFF) without
any compression it was visible to Flash.
