Hi Troy,
Actually, this is a bit of a misunderstanding. "Flash" is the official name
of the .SWF fileformat. For a period of time, we used "Shockwave Director"
and "Shockwave Flash", but we found that this was confusing for consumers
and publishers and now the official names are: .swf="Flash" and
.dxr="Shockwave". .SWF is, as you mention, an Open format. The Flash
authoring tool makes the Flash format (.SWF), the Director authoring tool
makes Shockwave (.dxr, etc).
