Subject: | FLASH: Detecting Flash IE plug-in |

When I took a look at the www.artattack.co.uk site, using IE 4.5 on the
Mac, the screen said something like "Flash is not installed on your
machine. Click on the button below and follow the instructions.
Predictably, it downloaded the Flash PPC installer. Naturally, I had
installed the Flash player yonks ago, but I clicked on the installer icon
anyway and was informed "No need to install, Flash is already installed
in IE4.5" -- Words to that effect anyway.
So, is Alexander's code at fault, IE4.5 or something else? Even
Macromedia's own site seems to think I don't have Flash unless I click on
the test buttons, and then it decides perhaps I do have the Flash plug-in
after all. I have noticed quite a lot of "Click this button if you *know*
you've got Flash" on various sites. Is detecting Flash plug-ins a known
problem?
Gareth.
