My experience is that transparent gifs don't work well in Flash
The way to get transparent background seems to be best acheived by using the PNG format as we did at
www.artattack.co.uk
where in the Picture room and other areas, we had to make extensive use of transparent images, or else the effect would not have worked. If you have
Photoshop or fireworks, they both handle PNG
