Subject: FLASH: if frame not loaded - not working?
From: Jonathan Mao
Date: Thu, 11 Mar 1999 07:10:25 GMT

Hi,

Sorry for the "newbieness". I wish the manuals were more detailed and
didn't rely on people using the online help.

I wanted to be able to play a "please wait" message whilst the movie
loaded. The aim being to avoid user frustration whilst waiting and
the "jerkiness" as the frames load not to mention the jagged type.

Please visit http://preview.tcp.net.au/sparkbc/

I followed the example at
http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/wait_for_frame01.
htm I wasn't able to follow it to the letter because step 2 in the
example appears to override settings in step 1. Unless there's a step
they're assuming the author is aware of an aren't specifying it in
the example.

It supposed to loop the first 30 frames in scene 1 until frame 93 in
scene 2 is loaded. Once played through it should skip the first 30
frames and loop through scene 1 frame 32 to scene 2 frame 93.

1. It appears to behave as if the action frame isn't there. In other
words, it just goes ahead and starts playing the movie before the
whole thing is loaded. So there's a big pause halfway through.
Although once loaded, it doesn't play the first few frames (as I
want).

2. I'm not getting consistent display or sound across browsers. No
answer expected here. I'm going to specify a minimal browser and
version.

Many thanks in advance. Unfortunately, it's now 6:05pm in Australia,
Macromedia tech support is closed. The USA is also closed for the
day. I'm going to try to call England next.

Cheers,
Jonno
