FLASH: Loading a file from standalone

Tried both of the tutorials on Flashzone and can't get either of them to 

work. Is it possible to load a registered file e.g. an Excel file (on a 

machine with Excel loaded obviously) from a button in Flash? Can someone 

point me to a tutorial?
