I've directed this to you Ken as it seems you may be able to help me
along the same lines as daves question! But anybody else feel free to
help :-)

I'm having the same problem of trying to get the flash to not repeat
itself when the user returns to the previous web page.
I have been trying to do exactly as you said, but its basically not
working as I have a preloader that has the actions as below:-

preloader-frame 1: If frame is loaded_last frame of main animation
Goto and play_first frame of main animation
preloader-frame 2: goto and play_frame 1 preloader (loop)

When I put the iactions into the main animation, that you have
mentioned, it just gets stuck on the preloader and wont even animate
that!!

Any help much appreciated

Put a label on your last frame appropriatly Last Frame would work great
In you first frame put an action If Frame is loaded (Label)Last Frame
Goto and Play (Label) Last Frame.
That way when your movie starts it will check to see if the last frame
has
been loaded and if it has it will jump to the last frame if it hasn't it
will continue playing.
