Wayne and David,

Thanks for your comments on this piece. Wayne you hit the nail
on the head with your comment about perceived value in relation to file
size. Filesize panic is a common syndrome on the web - it can be quite
unjustified(data stream requirements are important though) but it is a
very powerful restraining force for most developers.

David,

This piece was actually built for British Telecom - a major
telco. It is designed for a 64k connection delivered to a minimum spec
of 166Mhz machines - in schools to a target audience of 7 to 11 year
olds. The aim of the piece is in the educational puzzles mapped to the
school curriculum and wrapped in sugar coated interactions.

The client commissioned the work from creative storyboarding to
final delivery including working alongside teaching professionals and
using focus groups of 50 kids at a time to make sure the product met the
brief.

I can't disclose any of the contractual details between us and
the client but suffice it to say that this does not rely on any kind of
traffic or revenue models - it was paid for outright by the client and
as far as I can tell currently holds the intriguing position of being
the single most valuable (costwise) Flash file on the net.

We had a load of fun building it (4 months for a team of 3 plus
voiceovers and incidental animations) and the feedback we have received
both online and through the schools program has been exceptional. We
hope to expand on this project soon with Generator driven administration
modules so the teachers can track individual children's progress through
the game and identify potential areas for focus in their education.

Best,

Alex
