Hi Darren...

The simplest way to change your backgrounds would be to:

Insert a Layer
Title it "Background"
Press f8 to create a new symbol
Draw a Square
Select the square by double clicking on one of it's sides
In PC, hit ctrl-alt-k and bring up the (inspector) of the selected piece
Fill this square with your color of choice
Delete the box surrounding your new color
Change your height and width to match that of the movie.
Go back to your main movie
Make the Background layer active
Drop your colored square into the keyframe
In the Inspector, set x & y to ZERO
Then, when you want to change your background color, you merely:

Create a key frame for the start, and one for the end of the transition (or just one keyframe if you wish for no transition)

Double click any of the spaces between the two keyframes and select the tab "Tween"
Select Motion Tween
Close out that menu
Select the last keyframe
Select ONLY the square that is your background
Hit ctrl-i to MODIFY the INSTANCE of the background
Then, take it down to...I believe it is HUE (not in Flash right now) and make adjustments to get it to the color you would prefer.

Voila.  That should do it.

Can (and if so, how can you) make many the background change colors
throughout the movie??
