Subject: | FLASH: Generator Scrolling |

Hi there,
Just to pre-empt a potential re-direction of my question somewhere else...
I posted last week about "Can I post Generator questions here?". Since I got
no response, I am assuming (a bad thing to do, I know) that it's OK.
Anyway, onto my question:
I'm attempting a horizontal scroll in Generator using its pre-built
Insert>Template Command>Scrolling List.
Each of the items in the scrolling list, when clicked on, goes to a URL.
The problem is that if I just have a scrolling list (no buttons to jump to a
URL) then each scroll list item "takes up the slack" and butts next to the
previous and next items to make a nice uniform scroll appearance. However if
I combine the variable text (for the scroll item) with a button and a it's
accompanying hit area then each item takes up, say, 40 pixels width of space
regardless of how many words make up the scroll item -- this leads to
unsightly gaps of white space for shorter scroll text items.
Is there any way I can get the best of both worlds and have a dynamic
hit/button area depending on how long the variable words are?
I know I could have a variety of button instances for a wide variety of
sentence lengths eg (buttons at 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 etc pixels wide), but
eventually the client will be updating the Generator Variable files
themselves and I'd rather spare them from having to calculate the pixel
width of any given sentence!!
I'm aware I'm explaining this as it comes out of my head. Here's how the two
scenarios physically appear:
Scenario 1 (no clicking, butting)
1)xxxxyyyxxxy | 2)xxyyx x yxyxy xyyxyx | 3) xxyxyyx |
Scenario 2 (fixed hit area)
1)xxxxyyyxxxy |2)xxyyx x yxyxy xyyxyx | 3)xxyxyyx |
Hope the visualisation helps.
