My usual approach is to begin with the final frame of the zoom sequence

(the entire word). Then position that on the screen as I want it and lock

it in place as a background layer. Next I take the individual letters (same

size as the placeholder -- duplicate the placeholder & break apart). Then

make each letter a symbol -- movie clip-- and position each using the

placeholder as a guide. Keep the placeholder as a symbol. Next, I go into

each movie clip and determine how many frames I want.


Make a keyframe of the first and last frames in each movie clip. If the

letter is coming in straight (as opposed to on a curve) I use the scale and

rotate function to scale down the first frame. Then tween the sequence

(adding rotations if I want them). I put a stop action on the last frame of

each movie clip.


Finally, back in the movie edit mode, I add frames and keyframes so that

each letter starts at the appropriate time. You may want to put the

placeholder at the end of the zoom sequence and use an alpha channel fade

or reverse zoom to gracefully get rid of the whole word.


That's my input. Hope it's useful. Works for me, anyhow.
