Dave---
Well I'm no John Croteau but I may be able to help here having imported
hundreds of graphics and tracing them in the last week.
First of all interesting question :-)
Could I check on my method for creating a spinning 3D letter "K" in Flash
please?
You then said:
For each, I select it, choose Modify - Trace Bitmap and accept the defaults.
I'd experiment here. I have tried most of the settings and found wildly
different results and file sizes. For example pixels was twice as large as
Tight and Normal in my tests and they all looked quite different. Since
Tight and Normal came out the same size in my test it was easy to choose the
one that looked the best. Usually there is a tradeoff in size for quality
but I didn't find it so.
I then click within the shape using the paint bucket tool until the entire
fill is white.
NO, run away, run away. Just click on the fill and delete it. You're wasting
space on the areas you won't fill and are adding extra work for those you
do.
I am not sure how to recreate the gradient effects within the outline. There
are several distinct areas of differing gradient effects within the letter -
how do I demarcate these, or should they already be there at this stage?
If you are using standard gradients you can just fill. If you need to make
further breakdowns, I'd group the original item and then draw lines for the
subsections (but that's just off the top of my head I haven't done it in
Flash) There may be a better way
Hope that helps
