if you want to play the songs otherwise you'll be saying "I know
I had 10G left on my HD... where'd it all go ?"

Cheri have you tried the midi-wav with the new Winamp 2.6 ?

I have also tried getting it to write midi-wav but that was back
in version 2.4 or something like that and it crashed my computer
and hadn't tried since.

MOD-WAV works tho.
