Well, that's part of it. More detail in a larger version, but still
much lost via jpeg compression. And there are varying levels of
compression, as well.

gifs and jpegs have been compressed ... *lossy* compression, which is
irreversible. Colors lost, compromises made. Use the original bmp,
tiff, etc.
