Well, I know it's a bit expensive, but if you use Adobe Photoshop's Gamma
Control Panel Applet, you can change the settings of your PC from default
Windows to default Mac.

No, it's not just you. Half of the "cool" black background sites I look
at (on my PC) seem like they were designed by someone who didn't care if
his/her audience was actually able to see anything. Subtlety is
certainly better than garishness, but if you want to design for all
audiences, I think you have to use more contrast than many
black-background-designers do. Alternately, you can just design for a
specific audience and decide you don't care what the rest think.

Anyway, thanks for bringing up a good point. Is there a tool--similar to
the one someone mentioned previously for the Mac--that would allow PC
users to see the gamma settings that Mac users see?

Regards,
Helen
