FLASH: Detecting size of text box?

Hello again.


I was just wondering whether there is a way to work out how much text is displayed in a text box.  I need to know, 

if there is more than can be displayed so I can trigger a scrollbar MC.  I am currently playing around with .maxscroll but I can't get anything to work.
