Stories get spread around. What happened is that last week Macromedia legal
services sent private notice to several sites that were renting out
single-user versions of Generator, asking them to either get in compliance
with their licensing agreement or cease the out-of-license use.
Unfortunately this was republished in different form over the weekend and
got crossposted to many lists.
The private word that went out to those particular sites last week was not
a general message, which explains why the full story isn't available yet.
Folks here certainly want to make sure that no designers are left in the
lurch, if they happened to contract with a site which was using a single
copy of Generator for multiple sites.
The best source of info is in the macromedia.generator forum... that's
where the actual Generator team is. Like I said, though, the private word
to those particular sites was in advance of the main public announcements,
so we're sort of at a gawky point between information right now.
