I disagree. IMHO, anytime a browser takes over your monitor it's obnoxious.
To your credit you did offer an option of full screen or regular browser
window. I've seen a lot of sites that just launch full screen without even
prompting; when I see that I Alt+F4 and make a note to never return to that
site.

By your own admission when you first saw there was no way out you had to
reboot your machine to escape. How many "average web surfers" out there do
you think are aware that Alt+F4 closes the active window? I bet not many. I
would also go so far as to say that if a person came across your site and
got stuck in a full screen browser and the only way they knew how to get out
was to reboot, chances are that person will not revisit your site in the
future.
