The typical way this is done is by making an invisible button (it has a hit
area but that's all) and putting a movie clip on top of it (which could be
the button you started with, with its behavior changed to movie clip, and a
stop action in each frame). The use TellTarget associated with the button
and other buttons to change which frame the movie clip is displaying. You
will need to read up on TellTarget if you don't already understand it, but
it's essential for all advanced Flash work, so well worth learning.
