Subject: FLASH: Version Control for large projects

Hello Flashers,
As some of you might be aware, I'm working on a fairly
large project, (moonfruit.com) which involves having lots of developers
working on different files simultaneously. I would be interested to know
if anyone has any experience of version control for the FLAs, especially
when working with multiple developers in different places. Currently,
we're using CVS, which was originally designed for version control on
programming projects, which uses source code written in plain text. This
is fine for perl and C code, but when you are using a source file format
that is proprietary by nature(the FLAs), in conjunction with compiled
binaries, (the SWFs) the whole proposition gets a lot more complex. For
example, two people cannot edit the same file at once, and it often gets
very difficult to work out which file is the latest version, and which
binary corresponds with which source file.
Does anyone know whether there is currently, or whether
macromedia has plans to introduce, any method of determining which FLA
corresponds to which swf file? Possibly some kind of serial number
embedded in the swf? It could be done in around eight bytes, and would
only be of use to the developer who created the original file. Maybe
this is already inplace? Could this be included as part of the new Flash
5 authoring environment?

Any comments, officcial statements, or anecdotes from
previous experience would be much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Alias|Rob
