Run it through Fireworks !!!


The conversion of Flash and Director movies to GIFs works as intended, but

it does not have the full-on compression optimization that Fireworks does.


Fireworks has -- as an explicit part of its mandate! -- the requirement

that it scrunch GIF down to the teeniest.


(Anticipating the question of "Will Flash and Director and Aftershock

someday use Fireworks tricks for GIF compression?" the answer would be that

I can't predict the future myself, but that technology-sharing certainly

seems like a reasonable general goal to pursue.)


The Fireworks public beta is fully functional, and will time out on June 8.

(At that point there will be another build available.) It is really good

for GIF compression, and it's an *excellent* graphic tool as well... it

takes vectors in a whole other direction than Flash! The funky strokes and

soft, natural edges complement the clean crispness of Flash.


(Yeah, I've been raving about it a lot... sorry, I'm just so *excited*. ;)



Summary: Yes, the various tools produce workable GIFs but no, they're not

pioneering in producing miniscule GIFs. Download a copy of the Fireworks

trial to cut file size dramatically.
